Washington, D.C.'s Palm Restaurant remains a stop for many visitors to the city and has continued on its ascendancy close to 40 years after opening. Reviews of the restaurant's food and service have varied in recent years but it seems to maintain its local and national reputation as a legendary establishment.
In actuality the Palm is a chain because it is one of some 30 such restaurants in the United States, as well as in London, Mexico City, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. But the Washington location, which was the second one to open, still represents the ultimate Palm experience for some, even with another nearby Palm at Tyson's Corner, Virginia.
What draws people to the D.C. Palm is not necessarily the expected reason. Known as a place that attracts politicians, sports figures, and media elite, some who go just want to see it--and which celebrity they might be sitting close to can be of secondary interest at best.
